Saturday's Texas Music Throwdown benefits injured soldiers

Texas Music Throwdown to Benefit Heroes on the Water

Brandon Rhyder headlines the Texas Music Throwdown in The Woodlands on Saturday, October 1, 2011

Brandon Rhyder said he's a country boy and wholeheartedly admits that's just who he is. And the group he plays with, they're a country band. "

We're no further out of the box than the Charlie Daniels Band in the 80s," he said. "We like to get up there and sing and play good music."

On Saturday, Texas Country musician Brandon Rhyder will offer songs crafted over the past decade when he headlines the Texas Music Throwdown in The Woodlands.

The gates open at 4 p.m. at Town Green Park. Musicians featured include Doug Reid and The Herd, Mark Jones and 20 Paces, The Scooter Brown Band and Brandon Rhyder.

The event serves as a fundraiser for Heroes on the Water, a nonprofit organization that gets wounded military veterans out into nature where they can enjoy the freedom, independence and fulfillment that only a day in the outdoors can provide.

And supporting the military is a cause that's near and dear to Rhyder and he said he's happy to be a part of anything that raises awareness and says thank you to our soldiers.

"It's really something that's very important to all of us," Rhyder said of supporting U.S. troops.

In fact five years ago he was so moved he penned the song "Mr. Soldier" which he said brings feedback from soldiers on a daily basis.

"There was a gentleman in the Air Force who told me that a group was coming home (from overseas) and when they landed, "Mr. Soldier" was the first thing they heard when they got off the plane," he said. "Many of them had heard the song before and knew who it was, but those who hadn't wanted to know who it was."  CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
